I’m a MOTHER not a MODEL! I’m too FAT! Fashion is not for me!

SAYS WHO? BIG, skinny, dark, fair, old, young, mother, widow is not the reason for you to go out sloppy! We are all UNIQUE. God is fair. He made us equally SPECIAL. So, stop complaining about your look or size or shape or status and being so down when it come to fashion. Remember! You don’t need to have a model figure to be fashionable. Fashion is not about size. It’s about your passion and desire towards it!

Some useful fashion tips for you - some I got it from a fashion mag I read:

  1. First things first SMILE!- there is lots of scientific research that states that you are perceived as being much more attractive when you smile, so whatever else you are wearing make sure that it includes a smile. *Please refer to Style your Fashion
  2. Clothes for overweight can be fashionable using slight tricks with the fabrics, cuts and designs. For example, thin fabrics will not look good on them. An asymmetrical cut in the clothes is used to hide the figure.
  3. Keep an eye on fashion trends, styles and colors. Not every fashion will suit you but many can be adapted. Buy accessories in the current color trend and use them to dress up a classic black dress or tailored suit.
  4. Don't worry what size it says on the label; try on various sizes until you find the best fit. Sizes vary from store to store and range to range. It's the fit that matters not the size on the label.
  5. There are lots of myths about colors, some say that plus sizes should only wear dark colors, or earth tones, I believe you can wear any shade you want as long as you remember that using the same color all over helps to make the body appear longer and leaner. Bright colors are more eye catching and can be over powering and are often best used as a highlight color. If you have a big tummy or thighs and a good bust line you could use a deep v neckline with a brightly colored necklace to draw attention to your bust and away from the bulging tummy or thighs. *Please refer to Mel’s Secret – waist nipper.
  6. Don't dress smaller than your size. Even if it’s just a little bit too tight you will feel uncomfortable and start tugging and fiddling with it, drawing attention to the poor fit. Clothes that are too tight are very unflattering and never sexy.
  7. Good grooming is also essential, freshly washed hair, clean shoes, un-snagged tights, clean and tidy nail polish all go towards that over all look and more importantly a good impression. People rarely mention clean shoes but they will comment about scruffy ones.
  8. IMPORTANT! EVERYTHING IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY. If you saw a skinny woman in skinny jeans and you are in a plus size category, skinny jeans are not for you. Know your limitations, if when you look into the fitting room mirror (try everything on before you leave the store) something doesn’t feel just right... DO step away from the item and pick something more flattering. Most fashion NO-NO's are created when people try to wear things that are not flattering to their shape or size.
So moms and all-size-ladies out there! Fear no more to be stylish. Just be yourself and enjoy fashion!

My Idol - Kimora Lee Simmons

My moment with Ms. Fabulosity!
My dream walk-in wardrobe!
BIG name, BIG girl and BIG money! These are my 3 definitions for KLS. This African-American-Korean-Japanese lady inspired me in fashion so much. She model, she design, she strategize and she sell her brand herself though she’s juggling her time as a mother of 3 kids! She is one wonderful lady! Seriously I wanna live my life in a fab lane!  Just like her. Maybe one day... Yes, one sweet day! I believe!

Something about KLS

Kebaya

What is the most excellent cloth to wear for formal or casual occasion? My response is KEBAYA. Be it Nyonya, Kota Bharu, Pendek, Labuh or Pesak. All kebayas have their own specialties. You may wear it with sarong batik (traditional way), plain long skirt or for modern look; it can be worn with pants, over a simple sleeveless or spaghetti-strapped dress and even used over a tank top as a jacket! Isn’t it MAGICAL?

Honestly, the magic kebaya could ‘safe’ your day! You are ready to grace with your presence among confident, sophisticated and looking so good without having to spend for new cloths. Just mix and match.

Tips:
1. Kebaya has to be hand washed, using a little starch for the voile ones so they can last longer. Antique pieces have lasted through the years because of the use of starch.
2. Style the kebaya with light make-up and bun your hair. Don’t forget the classic cucuk sanggul to complete the whole mode.
3. Match the kebaya with high heels or flats.

Now, can I gracefully hold ‘Si Ratu Kebaya’ title? :-P

Oxford Heels

Some says it is 2008 Fall-Shoes-Must-Have. I say it is All-Year-Shoes-Must-Have. The unique technique of the shoes completes your style. The choice of black, brown or burgundy color make you look different and chic! It is another women’s way of incorporating the sexy menswear in women’s Fashion. You may name the brand like Jimmy Choo, UrbanOG, Micheal Korrs etc. They will cost you a bomb but trust me it is worth investment. I bought mine (brown suede) for RM38 - NO BRAND… Still, look spectacular in crowd ;-). Remember, ‘Fashions come and go… Styles are forever…’ Quote by Mel’s Closet. My objective is to be remembered by style. If you are remembered by style, you are the pure fashion goddess.

Tips: Looking really chic with legging or skinny and pencil cut dress.

Style Your Fashion

How much do you love fashion? Are you the ‘latest-in-store’, ‘evergreen’, ‘cheap-but-nice’ or ‘whatever…’ type?

Well, speaking about fashion and style, it is not necessarily you must have a ‘glass-hour’ figure or spend a ‘bomb’ for one shirt. It is the confident in you to bring yourself and the style itself.

In point of fact, there is no wrong and right in styling your fashion. As long as it is appropriate and not too much, you will never be a fashion victim.

What’s fashion victim?
You don’t have to put on the blue skirt with pink polka dots blouse to be a victim. If you are in a category of ‘super-branded-in-everything’, you are the victim too! You should not be manipulated by the Hollywood celebrity’s shiny red dress match along a diamante stud shoes and accessorized with a marvelous blinking diamond earrings. They have their own sponsors (well that’s the beauty being a superstar!). Remember, the price of the cloths have nothing to do with the way you style it! And again, ‘Fashions come and go… Styles are forever…’ Quote by Mel’s Closet.

We are not a SUPERSTAR! But…
Who doesn’t want to look like a superstar? You want, I want and we can! All you need is to be confident and accessorized yourself with a good smile. Really, it works! For instance, you are getting ready for a dinner with someone special. You want to look gorgeous but effortless. Tips: Style your fashion naturally. Do not over dressed/ make-up, equipped yourself with confident and you are ready to go. For this case, let’s use less is more concept; little black/ red dress, tiny diamond stud earrings and black/ silver heels. For make up; Smokey eyes (for sexy and sassy look), hair; bun (for sophisticated look) or blow curl (to spice up the night) and WALLA you will be crème de la crème baby!

* For those who are wearing hijab, long sleeves lycra dress with a contra color hijab and dazzling studded brooch will make you look outstanding.
